John Lennon: Su asesino pide perdón a Yoko Ono, 40 años después

El 8 de diciembre de 1980 ha sido y será siempre una de las fechas más fatídicas para los amantes de la música. Habría sido un día lleno de alegría para John Lennon si Mark David Chapman no se hubiera cruzado en el camino. Cuando salía de una entrevista, el artista firmó su último autógrafo a la persona que posteriormente le asesinaría.

Chapman quiso estar frente a John Lennon, para estrecharle la mano y que le firmara un ejemplar de ‘Double Fantasy’, su último álbum. Han pasado 40 años de ese momento y el asesino del ex integrante de The Beatles los ha pasado en prisión, ya que todavía cumple condena. Es ahora cuando ha querido pedir perdón por el acto cometido, sobre todo a Yoko Ono.

La viuda de John Lennon se encontraba junto a él en el preciso momento en el que fue asesinado. Recientemente, ha salido a la luz una grabación en la que Mark David Chapman pide perdón por lo que denomina como “despreciable acto”. Debemos tener en cuenta que, por lo ocurrido, el preso fue condenado a cadena perpetua.

December 8, 1980 legendary Beatles frontman John Lennon was gunned down in front of his Manhattan apartment building by Mark David Chapman- a man who was portrayed as nothing more than a “crazed fan”. These are tell tale signs of an orchestrated assassination that show up time and time again. John Lennon was known as an advocate of Peace and was more than just a proverbial thorn in the establishment’s side. . . In the eyes of the intelligence community he was seen as someone capable of uniting people of all races and as such was heavily monitored by both the CIA and the FBI. Nothing is more threatening to the ever marching War Machine than a figure with the ability to speak to millions of young people with a message of Love and Peace. . . El pasado mes de agosto, Chapman volvió a pedir la libertad condicional. Una vez más fue denegada. En dicha grabación, donde lo solicita, se pueden apreciar todas las declaraciones. La prisión no ha concedido ese permiso ya que considera que “sería incompatible con el bienestar de la sociedad”.

Varios medios de comunicación confirman que la grabación que dirige a la propia junta de la prisión es absolutamente escalofriante. Además, sus palabras son muy claras y concisas: “Le asesiné”. Pero va mucho más allá, al reconocer su culpa: “Era muy, muy, muy famoso, y esa es la única razón por la que yo estaba buscando mucho, mucho, mucho, mucho la gloria para mí. Fui muy egoísta. Quiero añadir eso y enfatizarlo mucho”.

Por si fuera poco, añadió: “Fue un acto extremadamente egoísta. Lo siento mucho por el dolor que le causé a ella (Yoko Ono). Pienso en ello constantemente”, se escuchaba decir a Mark David Chapman. Algo que llamó mucho la atención es que el asesino de John Lennon confesó que el artista no era el único en su lista, puesto que se encontraban otros grandes nombres como Elizabeth Taylor o, incluso, David Bowie.

“Creo que es el peor crimen que podría cometerse contra alguien que es inocente. No lo maté por su personalidad o por el tipo de hombre que era… Era un icono. Era alguien que hablaba de las cosas de las que ahora hablamos y eso es magnífico. Quiero reiterar que siento mucho haber cometido el crimen. No tengo excusa”, expresó el prisionero. Fue más duro aún: “Cuando a sabiendas tramas el asesinato de alguien, y sabes que está mal pero lo haces por ti mismo… Eso en mi opinión es pena de muerte. Me la merezco”.
