La emotiva carta del hermano de Nicky Hayden después de su muerte

Nicky Hayden ha recibido el homenaje más especial por parte de su hermano, Roger Lee Hayden, que ha compartido en su cuenta de Instagram los sentimientos de tristeza e impotencia después del fallecimiento de su allegado en un desgraciado accidente de bicicleta.

Roger, dos años menor que Nicky, publicó sus sensaciones y opiniones sobre lo que significa su hermano para él, después de que el hospital de Cesena confirmara su fallecimiento a causa de las heridas provocadas por una colisión cuando el piloto, campeón del mundo de Moto GP en 2006, circulaba con su bicicleta dando un paseo.

Nicky, hermano; nuestra historia no debía terminar así. Fuiste campeón del mundo por algo. Nunca he conocido a nadie con tantas ganas de competir. Me acuerdo de cómo crecimos compartiendo habitación y de cómo estudiabas las notas que habías tomado en la carrera anterior.
Nunca olvidaré que el lunes después de proclamarte campeón del mundo me hiciste levantar de la cama para ir a correr. Eso es lo que te separaba del resto y lo que te convirtió en leyenda. Hiciste mejor a todo el mundo, porque cuando no estabas en casa, corríamos en bici o en moto para que cuando volvieras, ese margen que siempre tenías se hubiera reducido un poco. Me empujaste a dar el máximo, pero lo más importante es que siempre recordaré el tipo de hermano que eras. Fuiste una leyenda como corredor y como hermano. Siempre estuviste a mi lado sin importar qué estuviera ocurriendo, dispuesto a ayudar.
Me alegro de que pudieras ver mi mejor versión en estos dos últimos años, no solo encima de la moto sino también lejos de ella. Podría sentarme todo el día a preguntar por qué, pero en vez de eso prefiero dar gracias por haberte podido tener como hermano durante 33 años. No te preocupes por tus sobrinas, las tengo bajo control: nada de novios hasta que vayan al instituto. Y voy a enseñar a los niños qué se necesita para ser campeón, en aquello que ellos decidan.
Esta foto es especial para mí. Después de pasar por un episodio de muy mala suerte, cuando parecía que tu título se había escapado, al final pude agarrarte así y decirte que ese año seguía siendo el tuyo. Y eso es lo que me volviste a decir tú a mí desde el podio. Incluso en un momento tan increíblemente difícil como este, todavía tengo fe. Si Dios te he traído hasta aquí, Dios te guiará a través de ello. Hasta que volvamos a rodar juntos. Te quiero.

Nicky my brother, our story wasn’t suppose to end like this. You were world champ for a reason. I’ve never met someone with the desire for racing bikes like you. I remember growing up we shared a room and you studying notes you took from the previous race and we were 12-13 years old, I’ll never forget the Monday morning after you won the world championship, you woke me up to go running. That’s what separated you from the rest and made you a legend. I could go on. You made everyone here better, cause when you wasn’t here, we were riding or cycling to close the gap for when we road with you again,. You pushed me to my best, but more importantly I’ll remember what kind of brother you were. You were legend of a racer and a brother. You were there for me no matter what was going on in life. You wanted to help, I’m glad you were able to see me at my best these past couple years, not just on the bike, but mainly off it. I can sit here and ask why all day, but instead I want to be thankful for having a brother like you for 33 years. Don’t worry I got the nieces handled. No boyfriends till they’re in college and I’ll teach the nephews what it takes to be a champion in whatever they decide. This picture is special to me, because after some bad luck and it looked like your world title was over, I grabbed you like this and told you it was still your year, and that was the first thing you did to me when I saw you at the podium. Tell me it back. Even during this incredibly difficult time I still have my faith, I believe if god will bring you to it, he will bring you through it. Till we ride again I love you. #letsgetit #69
